Customer Testimonials

It was clear that they were passionate about great garden design and functionality.  Over the next few weeks, we worked on the designs together to create the space that would work for us - taking into consideration our 'aspirations', budget and timescales. No surprises that my vision was somewhat larger than my budget, but RGC have split the garden landscaping into 3 phases of delivery.

The team has just finished Phase 1 in 4 weeks, and it's stunning.  They have done a highly professional job, the garden looks great.  When there was issues (which there always will be on large jobs like mine), they were resolved very quickly, with no fuss and the guys just got on with the job, which is great.

I cannot wait to get the team back in next year to start on Phase 2.

In the summer of 2013, my husband hired The Real Garden Company to design and landscape a tropical garden, for my 40th Birthday present. From the initial contact we were impressed with the professionalism shown and the quality of the design drawings produced by the design team. The design team listened to what I wanted and incorporated all these elements into the design. The construction team then worked hard to make the chosen plan a reality and with the broken down estimate, we were able to add items if required, such as lighting and the odd extra palm tree. Nothing was too much trouble and the design team kept in regular contact to make sure we were happy. We even had some aftercare information provided, to help the garden develop into the tropical theme we required. We are now planning the front garden, as we were so happy with the results in the back.

Mr. & Mrs. Floyd Taverham, Norwich

To say we were in desperate need of a garden designer would be a huge understatement. After 12 years of trying to juggle a 30 year old, bizarrely planted, shady, hundred foot garden with busy work and family lives, we had reached the point of giving up. Actually we had given up 2 years before when I weed killered what was left of the "lawn". We became scared; no more could we be bothered to spend a week tidying it up so we could have a BBQ. We even tried to stop looking out of the windows, as it made us feel so bad! In the Summer of 2013, when we got to the point of considering moving house just to get away from the garden we decided enough was enough.

As ever in these situations we worked out what we could afford and searched the internet for garden designers who could also complete the work. We found 3 and invited all of them to view our jungle, with our only remit being, "we want something radical, manageable and low maintenance that works with the shade but looks amazing"!

We were instantly impressed with the Real Garden Company's designer; he was very friendly and just listened. This really stood out for us, as another firm's designer tried to persuade us to resurrect the lawn, which was clearly not what we were asking for. RGC listened, supported us to focus on what we liked and wanted and importantly what we didn't. He talked us through some options and we really felt like he understood what we wanted whilst making helpful suggestions, without trying to impose his own ideas.

We certainly got radical; we agreed to have the garden completely gutted before the design stage! As it was so overgrown we assumed it would take at least a week; it took less than 3 days. The construction team (or destruction team in this case) were brilliant; they did it with minimum fuss. There was no disturbance for our neighbours and they kept us fully informed of every bit of work they were doing.

When the designer came back with the plans we were blown away. He had worked out where the scarce and precious sunlight fell in the garden and had designed around this. Having taken photographs of the naked garden, his plans included these with separate laminates of groundworks, patios and then planting over top. It was beautifully clear and it was really easy to picture how it would look. We were able to make adjustments to the plans and positioning to suit our tastes and he gave us lots of options about how we could spend our budget by choosing different materials and plants. He supported us whilst we dithered about plants and waited patiently when we unexpectedly had to pause progress at this point.

he ground work and construction started in early November 2013. Again the very friendly and courteous construction team kept us fully informed throughout and we were fascinated to watch it take shape in really quick time and really impressed by their commitment to working in some pretty awful weather! The designer visited almost daily to ensure we were happy with progress and discuss even the most minor but necessary changes to the plans.

Considering the enormity of the job; completely clearing a 100ft jungle, shifting and reshaping tons of earth, removing and replacing the entire boundary fence and gate, laying foundations, building patios, a beautiful sexy curved wall and steps, covering the rest with a membrane, laying gravel and planting, we were stunned to have this completed in less than 4 weeks and completely on budget!

Now we have the garden that we dreamed of, we gaze out of the window grinning rather than wincing. Thank you RGC you were fantastic and brilliant beyond our expectations!

Mr. J Clutton and Ms. S. Montagu, Norwich.

After obtaining quotes and advice from other local companies the choice to work with the Real Garden Company was made easy from the outset as the design team came in with an enthusiasm, vision and  knowledge base which was outstanding in comparison to competitors.

Work started in summer 2013 with a complete re-design of both front and back gardens following in-depth conversations about what we wanted and needed. The drawings of the different design options produced were thorough and exciting and crucially, the different aspects of the work needed, from ‘removal’ of the old garden to hard landscaping and planting were all broken down in the pricings given in the estimate. This was very helpful indeed as we were able to plan what we were able afford to do and we were given plenty of advice from both the design and construction teams prior to work starting.

What impressed us enormously was the quality of both workmanship and management. The construction guys worked very closely with the design team at all times and showed keen perfectionism.  We chose to phase the work to suit our budget, although we employed The Real Garden Company to cover each process from start to finish. Our back garden has been transformed. It looks larger, lighter, more stylish and inviting. We enjoyed watching the transformation and look forward to working with the company again to realise the design in the front. I would recommend The Real Garden Company above all others for the quality of the work, the excellent design and project management and the superior knowledge base of the entire team.

Karl & Chloe, Easton, Norwich

The Real Garden Company worked on our garden in Spring of 2013.

It started with a visit from their design team who worked with us to come up with our perfect garden. Having an idea of our budget and a rough idea of what we were looking for they drew up some initial plans.

After confirming we were happy they were able to come up with an excellent design and a very detailed and clear quote making it obvious what you were paying for. I must also add that we were very happy with the quote we received. While not the cheapest, they were certainly not the most expensive and were definitely worth every penny.

They were able to fit us in at relatively short notice and the work was carried out quickly and efficiently with a minimum of mess. They not only built a very nice gazebo for us but also laid a patio and turned the rest of the garden into a lush green space. In the end we could not have been happier with the service provided from the design all the way through to construction.

Excellent use was made of the small space available in our garden and we were honestly surprised at just how good it looked in the end. I cannot stress enough how happy we are with our new garden and I certainly cannot recommend the Real Garden Company highly enough!

Mr. C.Busby, Queens Hills, Norwich

Our London town house was transformed when the once-drab walled garden was given colour and interest with architectural plants and painted rendering. Viewed through the glazed patio doors the garden became a stunning extension of the living room both during the day, and illuminated, at night. The eventual purchaser actually said ‘What do I have to do to get this house?’ I am convinced that the garden design and landscaping by The Real Garden Company added the wow factor to our home in a row of identical terraced properties and really made the sale for us.

R. Mandeville FRICS, property developer, London

The RGC team took my typical Victorian house garden, long and narrow and full of weeds, and turned it into a tropical oasis, with hidden views, secret paths, palm trees, and a wall to wall pond for Koi carp. It was an imaginative design skilfully realized, and carried out on schedule and within budget. The garden has since been featured on TV in Gardeners World, the Financial Times Weekend and several other books and magazines. I was very impressed with their work ethic and attention to detail and would highly recommend their services.

I have employed The Real Garden Company to design and build 2 of my gardens and many display gardens at my nursery, The Palm Centre, here in Richmond. The first of the gardens was at my house in central London which shortly after completion was featured on BBC Gardeners World and other TV programs, and has subsequently appeared in many books, magazine articles over the next 10 years. They also designed my garden in Portugal.

I have known The Real Garden Company since about 1990 and have been aware of some of their many different projects in different parts of the UK and abroad. I have found their design drawings to be of the highest standard and their method of bringing designs ‘off paper’ and into construction very easy to work with. They have worked in the tropics as well as colder countries such as Belgium and Switzerland and in many different climates from cold inland sites to the south facing cliffs of the Isle of Portland facing directly into the English Channel.

I am familiar with RGC’s wide ranging plant knowledge and expertise in horticultural matters and would endorse their planting recommendations for almost any situation. I am aware that their knowledge is widely respected amongst specialist nurseries in the UK and that their work is sought after by garden photographers and journalists, with their plant knowledge regularly quoted.

M. Gibbons, Stockwell, London. Proprietor of The Palm Centre

The Real Garden Company provided lots of advice and personal attention to detail to make sure that the garden was exactly what we wanted, and that the design took account of our preferences and our budget. Infinite care was taken with the build and planting, and helpful advice has been provided since the work was finished about the aftercare of the plants, all of excellent quality, and establishing well. We think our garden now looks pretty special!

Susan Gourvish, Norwich

I had three patios constructed and designed, one in particular was far from a straight forward job. Two patios required very intricate stone work. The very skillful work was carried out on schedule and to the agreed costs. A flower boarder was redesigned and replanted. The plant knowledge of the company was temendous and I am delighted with the results.

Janet Gibbs, English Town Garden, Norwich

RGC designed and built my garden in phases to a very high quality & are clean and tidy on site. A friendly service & excellent value for money.

Mr. C. Marsh, Carribean Home From Home

Our garden is full of evergreen plants so that we have a lush garden for the whole year. The usual watering and weeding burden does not apply to my garden, thanks to our clever mulch and timed irrigation system. We are a busy family that would not have the time to look after a ‘traditional’ style of garden so this was an important part of the design brief.

In a small area the space is well designed so that my son can run around and have a play house and I can relax in the garden at the same time. The shapes used in the garden help disguise the shape of the rectangular plot and make it look bigger than its 15x7m.

My garden has enriched my familys' life, with space to entertain & enjoy plants & my sons to play. Well done RGC I do not hesitate to recommend them.

To whom it may concern

We have a large Victorian house set in a third of an acre of land, on the outskirts of Norwich. Originally, the garden was of a standard Victorian design with bay, yews, lawn and vegetable plot. We contacted the Real Garden Company about four years ago after viewing their portfolio of completed works and visiting some of their previous customers.

The two main contrasting plans that he drew up were beyond what we had anticipated – exactly what you pay a designer for.

Four years on and we are really impressed in that we are growing ‘exotic’ plants, we had no idea that these species could survive and flourish in Norfolk. Their designs are imaginative and in a different class to the majority of garden designs you see today. We have twenty six tons of gritstone in the ponds and streams, Indian slate patios and a wealth of wildlife in our garden. The original features of the garden were retained and incorporated into the design. These days we spend as much time in the garden as we do in the house!

Our garden needs are changing and the Real Garden Company’s willingness to deliver different types of service; be it construction, supply, supervision and labour were key to us developing the garden and we are still working together on our garden project till this very day.

A professional attitude to design – where collaboration with clients is a key skill. An extremely high standard of plant knowledge and creativity made this experience of working together an absolute pleasure. We enjoy our garden each and every day and we would not hesitate in recommending the services of the Real Garden Company to our friends and family.

Mr & Mrs Grace

I first contact the Real Garden Company in the summer of 2013 to renovate our back garden. It was landscaped by the previous owners of the house and whilst it contained some really lovely plants it looked a little tired and messy. The designer who came to our initial meeting listened carefully to what we wanted and came up with some good suggestions on the spot, but suggested we have some basic drawing work done as we weren’t sure exactly what changes we wanted. As this was not a complete re design they charged a very reasonable fee for the drawings and estimates and we were impressed with the proposals they presented to us just a couple of weeks later. We were able to quickly agree a package of work based on their designs and this was drawn up into a very clear and professional works agreement.

RGC were able to get a construction team on the job quite quickly which was important because it meant we would have a finished garden for the end of the summer, this was a major advantage in using them as they have different construction teams, enabling them to respond quickly. Hard landscaping, horticultural and lighting contractors all descended on the garden in a short space of time, coordinated throughout by the same designer/project manager who saw us initially. He kept us informed throughout the work and made sure everything ran smoothly and that the quality of the work was good, in fact it is outstanding and we were very happy with the end product and amazed by how quickly it was carried out.

During the work on the back garden we began to discuss work for our front garden, which was really an extremely large gravel car park. Once again they provided drawings to help us make up our minds after considering many different options that impacted on our entrance to the property and driving around /parking in it. RGC altered the drainage of the drive, installed brick edging, a new lawn, lighting, carried out tree surgery, put up some new fencing and planted a semi mature hedge all around it – phew! We were really impressed with the minimal fuss caused by all the work, the smoothness of the whole operation and the quality of the end product. Thank you RGC.

Mr & Mrs Robertson

I chose the Real Garden Company to work on my garden in the summer of 2013 after looking at their website which showed some impressive examples of their work and lots of positive feedback from previous clients. They seemed to stand out from the other top ranked Google sites, and my experience of working with them backed up the impressions gained from the web. They took on the challenge of making a large chicken and rabbit coup look stylish and re landscaping my small garden around it. They provided working drawings which made their ideas very clear, worked on costs with me so that my budget was accommodated and then carried out the job in an extremely professional way. I now have probably the best looking chicken and rabbit accommodation in East Anglia and a really neat and stylish garden for a very reasonable price. From the start of the process right through to the completion of high quality construction their service was friendly and efficient. I would not hesitate to recommend The Real Garden Co.

Mike Harrington

We are happy returning customers of The Real Garden Company. Last year they redesigned and built our front garden and this year they did the same for the back garden. Both jobs were professionally done and their designs on paper are really helpful to agree the final details and visualize how the new garden will look before the job starts. After having agreed the final landscaping design we received a detailed offer including costs and timing.

The new back garden exceeded our expectation and the job was completed on time and without disruption. They even returned after the garden was completed to put naming tags next to each plant, a bonus when visitors ask “what is this?”

To whom it may concern

I employed the Real Garden Company to design and build my garden in Norwich last year. A comprehensive set of drawings and estimates were delivered, which offered different choices as to what the final outcome would look like. We were very pleased with the designs and worked with the Real Garden Company as prospective contractors in order to arrive at a satisfactory construction agreement based on the aforementioned designs.

The RGC completed the first phase of construction in late 2011, completely re-landscaping our large front garden and entrance drive. Overall we were very pleased with the results of their service.

We are hoping to progress with the design for the back garden this year and we will certainly look to work with the RGC on this. We found that the overall knowledge base and standards of design to be excellent!
