Yucca queretaroensis

Yucca queretaroensis

Yucca queretaroensis

This stunning plant has become available in the UK recently and has almost grass like leaves, that move in the wind and make a graceful contrast to most of the other harder looking spikey plants. It grows in steep mountainous regions and should have an element of hardiness because of  its' wild habitat type. One of the other characterisitics of this type of terrain is free drainage, so the plant is likely to be less tolerant of cold if it is also in wet soil.

We like to show you spectacular plants on this site, seen in high quality photos in their natural settings or botanical gardens, we hope to inspire you. This Yucca is rare and experimental however, so if you cannot find Y. queretaroensis or afford the cost of such a rare plant there are alternatives that can create a similar effect; Yuccas linearifolia and rostrata are a little more tried and tested. They are also readily available in UK nurseries such as Urban Jungle, see their link on our Resources Page.

Foliage in Strong Sunlight.

Foliage in Strong Sunlight.

This photo shows how strong sunlight can affect the appearance of green leaves that have a hard surface, they can appear to reflect, shine, even look washed out in harsh midday sun and look greener in morning or evening light. Planting them amongst darker greens can help to soften this effect and contrasting the shades of green will help to show off the detail of the spikey outline of these plants architectural shapes.
