Sophora microphylla.
An easy to grow tree of vigorous growth originally from New Zealand. It has a mature height of 4 or 5m and a rounded crown of evergreen leaves reaching similar width. When they are young they have a wirey open habit and can look a little gangly. There are many shrubby forms of this tree but none produce flowers in such abundance or so reliably. Every February or March dense bunches of the deep golden bell shaped flowers will fill the crown of the tree. It is tolerant of most soil types and can withstand drought, is receptive to pruning and responds well to feeding with general fertilizer.
