Holboellia coriacea

Alternative text

Holboellia coriacea.
This is a great climber from China producing a dense mass of dark geen thick glossy evergreen foliage. The whole plant has a vigorous healthy look to it with an inpenetrable drape of leaf over whatever it is climbing on. It does need plenty of space as its twining habit will grip onto anything and climb into quite large trees. It flowers relatively profusely and on a warm day there is a mild scent, in a sunny position it will flower more and produce ornamental 5 -7cm long purple flushed pods of seeds.
H. coriacea is very easy to grow in most soils even withstanding serious root competition and some shade - although this may make it less dense. It is hardy and a reliable steady grower, perhaps being more vigorous in hot summers.
