Clerodendrum bungei
Left - the fully open flower, up to 15cm accross, fades to a pale pink as it ages begining as a deep cerise colour in bud, they have an unusual sweet yet fruity smell with a hint of bubblegum! The large leaves up to 20cm accross are a dark purple/green and when crush or even brushed against have a strong smell like peanuts.
Right - In the centre of this photo C. bungei is pushing through a group of plants. It is a spreading shrub with roots that run underground, however it is easy to control by simply pulling up the runners before they establish. Better photos of the whole plant to follow....
Left - The beautiful deep pink of the buds opening.
