Acacia baileyana 'Purpurea'

Alternative text

Acacia baileyana 'Purpurea'.
Left - purple flushed new growth at the tip of the branch with silver older foliage behind and deep golden flower buds.
Right - native to Australia the purple form of the 'Cootamundra Wattle' is quite hardy in the UK making only a small tree - a very useful characteristic if you have experienced the extreme vigour and large size of some other Acacias. The flowers open to an intense yellow during February through till April.

Alternative text

The fully open flowers fade to a paler yellow and seem to be a little less scented than those of A.dealbata.
