A stunning low growing bamboo that forms a dense carpet of brightly coloured leaves, starting off the season in pale shades of yellow and green with completely random patterns of stripes. It's culms have a purple colouration which adds to it's spring display before the dense leaf growth obscures them. Later in the season the leaf colour darkens and the yellow tones become light green with darker green stripes. This is a moderately invasive bamboo sending out many runners in all directions each season. The root system is shallow and its spread can be controlled by cutting back the edges of the rhizome mat every season. It will not grow runners further than 30cm out from the edge of the main clump. It does not reach more than 1m tall and should be cut back completely too ground level every other season to keep the intensity of the leaf colours, this can also restrict the vigour of invasive root growth and keep it to a more compact and dense 70cm tall.
