After many years of buying plants from specialist nurseries all over the UK I can safely say that there is no better presented place to buy plants from than Urban Jungle. As soon as you approach the gates a lush and full display greets you and draws you in, plants of all kinds surround you and as you drive to the car park its all you can do to keep your eyes on the road. There are large display plantings that show how their stock can look planted out, using different types of plant together and a delightful pay hut painted in Carribean colours completes the picture.
The huge range of plants on offer here soon becomes apparent, from gingers and bananas to trees, palms and shrubs, Yuccas, agaves and tree ferns. There is an awful lot of homegrown plants which is really heartening to see as there are so many nurseries today that simply import everything from Spain or Italy so that you can go from nursery to nursery or even garden centre and see the same plants. The quality of their stock is really excellent and well grown, well presented with staff on hand who are knowlegable and friendly - something that defines a nursery visit from the more commercial 'buy and sell' garden centre. They also have an excellent website which is very infomative and easy to use.
This fantastic nursery is a breath of fresh air to experienced horticulturists like us but is just as fascinating to beginers and enthusiasts of any type of gardening. There are plants here that can fit any style of garden; not just the cliche` jungley or spikey look, rare shrubs and trees from Australia and New Zealand, flowering plants, ferns and ground cover can fit just as well into an English garden as into an exotic style. The quality of display here means that this is a great day out too, you can marvel at the huge Koi carp, wander round the several display plantings and relax with a cup of tea surrounded by tropical scents.
